THE NEIGHBORHOOD VERDICT

Where to stay
in Taipei.

Choose for the trip you want—not from a generic list of the city’s most famous neighborhoods.

THE BASE RULE

Ask what needs to be outside the door after dinner, which attractions own most mornings, and how many paid rides the cheaper room quietly adds.

01$$

Zhongshan

First visits; dining

A central base with cafés, shops and useful north-south connections.

WATCH FORMain roads are busy and hotels vary widely in room size.
Red and Green MRT lines meet at Zhongshan.
02$$

Taipei Main Station / Zhongzheng

Airport and intercity rail

Convenient when onward trains matter more than neighborhood atmosphere.

WATCH FORLong underground walks; the airport MRT is not directly beside every hotel labeled Main Station.
Check the exact exit and route to Taoyuan MRT A1.
03$$$

Da’an / Dongmen

Food; quieter side streets

Useful for Yongkang Street and a more residential evening feel.

WATCH FORPremium small hotels and fewer budget rooms near the best-connected stations.
Dongmen joins Red and Orange lines; Da’an has Red and Brown.
04$$$

Xinyi

Modern hotels; tower district

Large malls, skyline views and comfortable full-service hotels.

WATCH FORHigher prices and longer trips to western temples and Dadaocheng.
Red Line at Taipei 101/World Trade Center; Blue Line lies farther north.
05$$

Ximending / Wanhua

Value; younger nightlife

Walkable shopping and access to the older west.

WATCH FORBusy pedestrian streets and some small windowless rooms; inspect the exact property.
Blue and Green lines at Ximen; Longshan is a separate stop.
06$$

Dadaocheng / Datong

Trading streets; tea

Good for slower mornings around Dihua Street.

WATCH FORSome charming properties are a substantial walk from MRT platforms.
Use Beimen, Daqiaotou or Shuanglian according to the hotel.
07$$

Songshan / Nanjing Sanmin

Neighborhood dining; Raohe access

A practical eastern base with less tower-district pricing.

WATCH FORNot every Songshan address is close to the station or airport.
Green Line; distinguish Songshan rail station from Songshan Airport on the Brown Line.
