THE ROUTE VERDICT

Realistic itineraries
in Split.

Days that respect geography, energy, opening hours, crowd pressure, and the pleasure of not rushing.

ROUTING LOGIC

Times are suggested planning windows, including the travel buffers described below. Reorder whole days for museum closures, weather, and confirmed reservations. For a shorter visit, use the first day or first two days; extensions and alternatives are labeled.

01
Day 1

A living Roman city

Riva → palace lanes → substructures → lunch → cathedral → rest → dinner

  1. Breakfast at Brasserie on 7

Allow an hour during the published breakfast window; the palace is a 10-minute walk away.

  2. Palace streets and Peristyle

Spend 75–90 minutes with the gates, lanes and inhabited courtyards. A guide can add context without requiring every paid interior.

  3. Palace substructures

Allow 15 minutes for entry and about an hour inside. If access changes, extend the street-level circuit; do not confuse the souvenir corridor with the complete exhibition.

  4. Lunch at UJE Oil Bar

Walk 10–15 minutes and reserve a 90-minute lunch explicitly. If seasonal lunch is not confirmed, Brasserie on 7 offers a published lunch window nearby at 13:00.

  5. Cathedral complex

Walk 10–15 minutes and follow the day’s tourist-entry arrangements. Choose the church and one additional component; allow up to 90 minutes. Worship or a long tower queue: use the exterior and leave the climb out.

  6. Riva and hotel break

Take 30–45 minutes on the promenade, then return to your lodging.

  7. Dinner at Brasserie on 7

Book the actual evening service, especially outside summer. If unavailable, prearrange Zrno Soli at 20:00 and allow 35–45 minutes along the western waterfront or by taxi.

02
Day 2

Marjan and the western coast

Plinarska breakfast → Marjan viewpoint → Meje lunch → Meštrović Gallery → rest → dinner

  1. Breakfast at Ćiri Biri Bela

Tuesday–Sunday walk-in service: allow an hour and abandon a long queue. Monday or excessive wait: Brasserie on 7 at 08:15.

  2. A short Marjan walk

Allow 30–40 minutes to the lower viewpoint, then a selected signed loop. Finish by 11:45; this is not a full peninsula hike. Wind, heat or closure: walk the flatter western waterfront instead.

  3. Lunch at Zrno Soli

Allow 35–45 minutes to ACI Marina and reserve a 90-minute lunch. Confirm the kitchen when booking.

  4. Meštrović Gallery

Allow 30–40 minutes from the marina plus entry time; spend 1.5–2 hours. Monday or holiday closure: use a gentle Meje waterfront walk and move the museum to another day.

  5. Return and rest

Allow 35–50 minutes by walking or bus with waiting, or arrange a taxi.

  6. Dinner at UJE Oil Bar

Reserve a confirmed evening table. If the restaurant is on seasonal break, book Brasserie on 7 after verifying dinner service; do not send the day’s final meal to Ćiri Biri Bela, which has no 2026 dinner service.

03
Day 3

Art and an urban beach afternoon

Riva breakfast → Fine Arts Museum → lunch → Bačvice/Firule → dinner

  1. Breakfast at Brasserie on 7

Allow 45–60 minutes, then 20–25 minutes to the museum north of the Golden Gate.

  2. Museum of Fine Arts

Spend two hours; the morning fits both weekday and weekend hours. Monday/holiday: use an open palace-substructure visit if not yet done, otherwise explore Manuš and the market streets.

  3. Lunch at Theatrum Bar & Food

Walk 10–15 minutes and confirm kitchen service for a 75–90-minute meal. If unavailable, Brasserie on 7 at 13:00 is a 15–20-minute walk south.

  4. Bačvice and the coastal path

Allow 35–45 minutes from the centre, including a water stop. Swim only in suitable conditions; otherwise stroll toward Firule. In rain, use a hotel break instead.

  5. Rest and change

Allow 30–45 minutes to your accommodation; if you stay east, enjoy a shorter local break.

  6. Dinner at Dvor

Confirm the seasonal dinner and seating before the day begins. Allow 30–45 minutes from the centre by taxi or walking. If Dvor is closed, remain central for a preconfirmed UJE dinner instead.

04
Day 4

Roman Salona without a rushed second excursion

Early breakfast → Solin/Salona → Split lunch → free afternoon → final dinner

  1. Breakfast at Forketta

Arrange nonresident breakfast access within the published 07:00–11:00 service, allowing 45 minutes. If unavailable, use Brasserie on 7 at the same time.

  2. Travel to Salona

Allow 60–75 minutes including bus waiting and the walk to the Tusculum visitor area, or arrange a taxi and return pickup. Carry water and a snack.

  3. Salona archaeological site

Allow 2–2.5 hours on uneven ground. Check holiday access; bad weather or closure: remain in Split for a confirmed-open museum and a longer lunch.

  4. Return to Split

Allow 60–75 minutes, with extra road time if traffic is heavy. Do not add Klis before lunch.

  5. Lunch at Brasserie on 7

The published lunch window runs to 17:00; allow 90 minutes and move the booking later if the return is delayed.

  6. Hotel break and a final harbour stroll

Rest first; the short waterfront walk is optional and weather-dependent. Keep this afternoon free of timed admissions.

  7. Final dinner at Zrno Soli

Reserve a confirmed kitchen time and allow 35–45 minutes to ACI Marina. If you prefer to stay central, arrange UJE dinner instead before leaving for Salona.

DO NOT BREAK THE RHYTHM

Four ways travelers exhaust Split.

Crossing town for every mealA good nearby table beats the famous reservation that breaks the day.

Stacking major institutionsTwo famous doors do not guarantee two meaningful visits.

Ignoring the hotel resetA real break protects the evening that mattered enough to reserve.

Treating travel time as emptyThe route, street, train, river, or view can be part of the city—not an inconvenience.
