Days that respect geography, energy, opening hours, crowd pressure, and the pleasure of not rushing.
ROUTING LOGIC
Times are suggested planning windows, including the travel buffers described below. Reorder whole days for museum closures, weather, and confirmed reservations. For a shorter visit, use the first day or first two days; extensions and alternatives are labeled.
01
Day 1
Fira archaeology and a short caldera walk
Fira → Firostefani → Fira
Breakfast in Fira
Eat before the museum; leave luggage at the hotel rather than carrying it on steps.
Museum of Prehistoric Thera
Allow 90 minutes to two hours. Tuesday use a relaxed Fira walk and move the museum to another open morning.
Pelican Kipos lunch
Reserve or confirm a table and allow 90 minutes for a full meal.
Fira–Firostefani walk
Take a comfortable section with stops, returning before fatigue. Bad weather means a seated break instead.
Aktaion dinner or Fira return
Use an explicitly confirmed Aktaion dinner reservation. If it is unavailable, return with 30–45 minutes of walking or transfer margin for Pelican Kipos at 19:30; do not rely on an unconfirmed seasonal kitchen.
02
Day 2
Oia without a compulsory sunset crowd
Fira → Oia → Fira
Breakfast and departure check
Confirm the actual bus or reserved ride and the return; allow 60–90 minutes door to door.
Oia public lanes
Explore slowly, respecting private terraces. This is a village walk, not a promise of empty photo spots.
Roka lunch
Reserve at the Greek restaurant on Markou Mpotsari. If its date is unavailable, arrange Dimitris Ammoudi at 13:30 with a vehicle transfer leaving the upper village by 12:45; do not improvise the stair round trip.
A short final walk or rest
Remain near the lunch area; no additional hike is required. A harbor lunch should end with the arranged pickup.
Return window
Use a confirmed departure and allow 60–90 minutes or more for traffic and waiting.
Fira dinner
Pelican Kipos is a practical confirmed-date option; Selene is a separately reserved longer tasting-menu evening. Neither depends on staying in Oia for sunset.
03
Day 3
Archaeology and the southern shore
Fira → Akrotiri → Vlychada → Kamari
Breakfast and transport
For this multi-stop day arrange rides or verify each bus connection; budget 75–90 minutes to the first site.
Akrotiri
Allow two to two and a half hours. Check its own ministry calendar, including shorter Monday/Thursday hours; if closed unexpectedly replace the visit with a permitted village walk.
Transfer to Vlychada
Allow 45–60 minutes with pickup and traffic; do not insert a Red Beach descent.
To Psaraki lunch
Reserve the seasonal service and allow 90 minutes. If unavailable, bring a full picnic and use a permitted sheltered place before the next transfer.
Transfer to Kamari
Allow 45–60 minutes before a modest promenade walk; swimming is optional and condition-dependent.
Return to the hotel
Allow up to 90 minutes if connecting through Fira. Shorten the shore stop if transport demands it.
Dinner with no additional sightseeing
Use Pelican Kipos if based in Fira, with the actual return confirmed before reserving. Eat near your own base if staying elsewhere.
04
Day 4
Pyrgos and a reserved wine session
Fira → Pyrgos → Santo Wines → Exo Gonia or Fira
Breakfast and lunch supplies
Carry a substantial lunch if no village kitchen has been confirmed.
Pyrgos village
Allow 60–90 minutes to reach the village from your base and two hours for an unhurried loop. Keep to lower lanes if stairs are unsuitable.
Lunch and rest
Eat the packed meal at a permitted place or use an explicitly confirmed village lunch; leave a full hour before another outing.
Travel to Santo Wines
Allow 45 minutes to reach the winery and another 15 minutes for check-in.
Reserved tasting
Allow 90 minutes to two hours only if this session is offered on the date. A closure means a longer village break and an earlier hotel return.
Metaxi Mas dinner
Reserve the actual evening service and allow at least 60 minutes after the winery for the Exo Gonia transfer. If no table or seasonal service is confirmed, return to Fira and book Pelican Kipos at 19:30 instead; the driver does not taste.
DO NOT BREAK THE RHYTHM
Four ways travelers exhaust Santorini.
Crossing town for every mealA good nearby table beats the famous reservation that breaks the day.
Stacking major institutionsTwo famous doors do not guarantee two meaningful visits.
Ignoring the hotel resetA real break protects the evening that mattered enough to reserve.
Treating travel time as emptyThe route, street, train, river, or view can be part of the city—not an inconvenience.
