Days that respect geography, energy, opening hours, crowd pressure, and the pleasure of not rushing.
ROUTING LOGIC
Times are suggested planning windows, including the travel buffers described below. Reorder whole days for museum closures, weather, and confirmed reservations. For a shorter visit, use the first day or first two days; extensions and alternatives are labeled.
01
Day 1
Registan and Gur-e-Amir with a real rest
Historic-center hotel → Registan → Gur-e-Amir → Platan
Hotel breakfast
Confirm Registan ticketed access, any ceremony and Gur-e-Amir entry.
Registan ensemble
Spend 2.5 hours with interpretation and seated breaks. If an event blocks interiors, use an exterior study and return only on a confirmed later session.
Atrium lunch
Allow 15–30 minutes by car and a 75-minute full meal; a hotel restaurant near Registan is the fallback.
Hotel rest
Return and protect at least two hours during heat or winter weather.
Gur-e-Amir
Allow 75 minutes, respecting prayer and photography instructions.
Short central walk
Use only a lit, comfortable route; skip it in severe weather.
Platan dinner
Reserve and wait for the operator’s confirmation; allow 90 minutes.
02
Day 2
Bibi-Khanym, Siab and Shah-i-Zinda
Historic center → Siab district → Shah-i-Zinda → hotel
Hotel breakfast
Confirm Bibi-Khanym and Shah-i-Zinda access; dress modestly.
Bibi-Khanym Mosque
Allow 75 minutes with restoration context and shade breaks.
Siab Bazaar
Spend 60 minutes, buy modest bread or fruit and keep aisles clear.
Reserved historic-center lunch
Use a hotel or verified restaurant near the bazaar for a proper 75-minute meal; market snacks alone are not lunch.
Hotel rest
Return for two hours before the stair-heavy sacred complex.
Shah-i-Zinda
Allow two hours, yielding to pilgrims and avoiding blocked or fragile surfaces.
Return and cool down
Allow 30–45 minutes to the hotel.
Platan or Atrium dinner
Use a confirmed reservation close to the hotel; do not cross to the eastern resort.
03
Day 3
Sogdian history, astronomy and paper
Afrasiab → Ulugh Beg Observatory → Konigil → city
Hotel breakfast
Confirm both museums and the Konigil demonstration before hiring the driver.
Afrasiab Museum
Allow two hours indoors; enter the archaeological landscape only where permitted.
Ulugh Beg Observatory
Allow 20–30 minutes by car and 75 minutes on site.
Atrium lunch
Drive 20–40 minutes for a confirmed 75-minute lunch; if staying north, use a guide-vetted full meal closer to the route.
Konigil transfer
Allow 30–45 minutes and confirm the workshop is expecting visitors.
Meros paper workshop
Spend 90 minutes on a real demonstration and maker-attributed shopping.
Return to hotel
Allow 30–60 minutes, then rest.
Light hotel dinner
Choose a nearby restaurant after the road day.
04
Day 4
Imam al-Bukhari as a pilgrimage and learning visit
Samarkand → Khartang complex → city
Hotel breakfast and dress check
Confirm complex visitor sessions, prayer considerations and driver. Carry a scarf or covering if appropriate and water.
Drive to Khartang
Allow 45–75 minutes for the roughly 25 km route and arrival.
Imam al-Bukhari complex
Allow 2.5–3 hours across open mausoleum, mosque and museum areas. Worship has priority; not every space is tourist access.
Return toward Samarkand
Allow 60–90 minutes and do not add a second remote shrine.
Platan late lunch
Its operator publishes continuous daily service; reserve the late meal and allow 90 minutes.
Hotel rest
Keep the afternoon free after the road and pilgrimage visit.
Mövenpick or hotel dinner
Use a nearby confirmed restaurant; the eastern resort is worthwhile only if staying there.
DO NOT BREAK THE RHYTHM
Four ways travelers exhaust Samarkand.
Crossing town for every mealA good nearby table beats the famous reservation that breaks the day.
Stacking major institutionsTwo famous doors do not guarantee two meaningful visits.
Ignoring the hotel resetA real break protects the evening that mattered enough to reserve.
Treating travel time as emptyThe route, street, train, river, or view can be part of the city—not an inconvenience.
