Days that respect geography, energy, opening hours, crowd pressure, and the pleasure of not rushing.
ROUTING LOGIC
Times are suggested planning windows, including the travel buffers described below. Reorder whole days for museum closures, weather, and confirmed reservations. For a shorter visit, use the first day or first two days; extensions and alternatives are labeled.
01
Day 1
The historic upper and lower city
Pelourinho → Casa do Carnaval → Cuco → Lacerda
Breakfast at your hotel
Eat before the walking route and carry drinking water. Allow 30–60 minutes from coastal hotels to the meeting point.
Guided Pelourinho walk
Keep the walk to about 90 minutes; São Francisco is an exterior stop only during restoration.
Casa do Carnaval
Allow roughly 90 minutes. Swap this day with Day 3 on a Monday or if the museum calendar is closed.
Cuco lunch
Reserve a substantial seated meal in Pelourinho. If unavailable, confirm Senac Pelourinho lunch before setting out.
Lacerda and short Comércio loop
Allow time to walk to the lift and check operation; use a taxi or omit the descent if unavailable. Return to the hotel by registered transport around 15:30.
Casa de Tereza dinner
Reserve and leave the hotel with 45–60 minutes for the Rio Vermelho transfer. A confirmed Pereira dinner is the coastal alternative.
02
Day 2
Barra and a Bahian food afternoon
Barra → Rio Vermelho → hotel
Hotel breakfast
Bring sun protection and plan a registered transfer to Barra if staying elsewhere.
Nautical Museum and headland
Use the actual museum opening time; if closed, take a short public promenade and keep the rest of the day.
Transfer to Rio Vermelho
Allow 30–45 minutes including traffic and the restaurant approach.
Dona Mariquita lunch
Reserve the Rio Vermelho branch on a listed service day. For Monday, or if unavailable, use Casa de Tereza only after confirming its lunch sitting; otherwise swap the day.
Cooling break
Return to the hotel or take an indoor rest. Do not fill the hottest period with another exposed walk.
Optional Dinha acarajé
Only if the stall is trading, make this a snack in Largo de Santana and keep the visit short. Heavy rain means omitting it.
Pereira dinner
Book in Barra and allow 45–60 minutes from Rio Vermelho or your hotel; arrange the ride home.
03
Day 3
Bonfim and Ribeira
Bonfim → Ribeira → historic-centre lunch
Breakfast before departure
Allow 45–75 minutes by registered taxi from the coastal hotel districts.
Bonfim sanctuary
Respect the day’s services; exterior observation is the fallback when tourist entry is restricted.
Short ride to Ribeira
Allow 15–25 minutes and keep any waterfront walk in daylight.
Sorveteria da Ribeira pause
Have a modest ice cream, then leave time for a proper lunch. If closed, continue toward the lunch district.
Return toward Pelourinho
Allow 40–60 minutes by registered transport, longer with traffic.
Senac Pelourinho lunch
Confirm service and the meal format. Cuco is the nearby named alternative if Senac is not serving.
Return and rest
This deliberately light afternoon leaves room for heat or traffic delays.
Amado dinner
Reserve and allow 45–60 minutes to the Avenida Contorno entrance; confirm a Pereira sitting if Amado is unavailable.
04
Day 4
Afro-Brazilian and contemporary art
MUNCAB → Amado → MAM
Hotel breakfast
Check both museums and the lunch reservation before leaving. Swap with Day 2 if the dated museum calendar is closed.
MUNCAB
Allow two hours for the current exhibition, using its confirmed opening time and access arrangements.
Transfer to Avenida Contorno
Allow 30–45 minutes by registered taxi; avoid an improvised steep walking shortcut.
Amado lunch
Reserve a real meal. If no sitting is available, eat at Cuco before transferring and move MAM to 15:00.
MAM Bahia
Take a short taxi ride to the designated entrance and allow up to two hours. Ordinary Monday closure means swapping days; heavy rain can limit outdoor sections.
Return to your hotel
Arrange pickup rather than walking unfamiliar waterfront lanes after dark.
Casa de Tereza dinner
Close with a confirmed regional meal; choose Pereira instead if that better fits your hotel and available service.
DO NOT BREAK THE RHYTHM
Four ways travelers exhaust Salvador.
Crossing town for every mealA good nearby table beats the famous reservation that breaks the day.
Stacking major institutionsTwo famous doors do not guarantee two meaningful visits.
Ignoring the hotel resetA real break protects the evening that mattered enough to reserve.
Treating travel time as emptyThe route, street, train, river, or view can be part of the city—not an inconvenience.
