Days that respect geography, energy, opening hours, crowd pressure, and the pleasure of not rushing.
ROUTING LOGIC
Times are suggested planning windows, including the travel buffers described below. Reorder whole days for museum closures, weather, and confirmed reservations. For a shorter visit, use the first day or first two days; extensions and alternatives are labeled.
01
Day 1
A port with context
Central meeting point → Matriz → Santa Rita → central galleries and dinner
Breakfast at your booked pousada
Use the included breakfast or a confirmed hotel service; DAQUI is not yet open on most days.
Historic-centre guided introduction
Confirm the actual morning departure, meeting point and suitable stone-street route. Protect two hours including meeting and a shortened exterior circuit if access or tide requires it.
Allow 15 minutes for the short transfer and 45–60 minutes inside. Mon/Tue closed: use Santa Rita exterior and save the museum for an open morning. Weekend entry must finish before 14:00.
Allow 15–20 minutes on the cobbles; reserve and protect ninety minutes for a regional meal.
Casa da Cultura
Allow a short walk and an hour inside; current visiting window Tue–Sat. Sunday/Monday use a confirmed open studio or rest at the hotel, not a fictional museum entry.
Choose a small coffee/cake stop and allow hotel rest before dinner. Check the mapped café entrance.
Quintal das Letras dinner
Reserve and walk only the appropriate central route; use a hotel-arranged ride for an outlying base.
02
Day 2
The bay without an afternoon sprint
Hotel → Cais de Paraty → one complete bay circuit → town
Pousada breakfast and provisions
Eat before checking in, pack water and a snack, and confirm the vessel, written departure and boarding arrangements.
Boat check-in buffer
Treat this as a planning buffer, not a confirmed sailing time. Netuno IV’s page conflicts between 10:00 and 10:30; get the actual time in writing and be at the correct pier at least thirty minutes before it.
Protect the operator’s six-hour sailing and return margin. Choose its optional named Netuno IV onboard restaurant lunch only after confirming price and dietary suitability; bring suitable provisions if service cannot meet your needs. Landing, snorkeling and swimming depend on conditions.
Return, wash and rest
Keep at least ninety minutes after the expected pier return. Do not buy a fixed afternoon excursion or book an airport transfer here.
Casa Coupê dinner
An uncomplicated central meal after the sea day. If the boat cancels, use the open museum/gallery circuit and an unrushed lunch rather than chasing an unsafe substitute sailing.
03
Day 3
A prearranged forest morning
Town → Fazenda Bananal → town lunch → Pontal → central dinner
Pousada breakfast
Confirm the Bananal appointment and return ride before leaving. No confirmed visit means use the town backup instead.
Arranged transfer to Bananal
Protect forty-five minutes for pickup, the roughly twenty-minute drive and arrival. Use only an agreed visitor program, not an assumed walk-in ticket.
Booked Bananal interpretation
A provisional two-hour block must be accepted by the operator. Confirm surfaces, seating, toilets, weather and group conditions. Do not assume its limited public food programs provide lunch today.
A reliable geographic fallback after a separately confirmed service. On an actual prebooked Bananal public lunch day, replace this whole lunch/return block with that meal and return later; do not book two lunches.
Pontal frontage and rest
Allow a short central walk, thirty to forty-five minutes by the frontage and a return break. Stay on a suitable daylight route; this is not a swimming plan.
Bartholomeu Contemporâneo dinner
Monday closed: choose confirmed Punto di Vino service instead. Tue/Wed dinner starts at 18:30. If Bananal is unavailable, use confirmed local studios and the open museum morning, retaining the same central meals.
04
Day 4
An active Pontal morning or a gentler alternative
Town → Pontal kayak meeting → Jabaquara lunch → hotel → central dinner
Pousada breakfast
Eat and pack water and snacks early; verify wind, tide and physical eligibility before committing.
Transfer and kayak meeting buffer
Arrange the correct Pontal beach meeting point and allow forty-five minutes including check-in, fitting and briefing. This route is only for swimmers over fifteen under the checked operator rules.
Guided kayak bay outing
Four hours is an active block; mangrove entry is conditional on tide. If unsuitable, replace the entire activity with a slower gallery/museum morning and keep lunch in town.
Protect an hour for return, changing and the ride over to Jabaquara, not a five-minute sprint with wet equipment.
Quintal de Mãe lunch when confirmed
Use Wed–Sun only after direct confirmation; Sunday’s advertised service ends at 17:00. Mon/Tue or any uncertainty: return to Banana da Terra in town for the entire lunch block.
Return to the hotel
Protect forty-five minutes for pickup and a rest; do not add a waterfall trip to this physical day.
Punto di Vino dinner
Confirm the chosen service directly and reserve if available. A family or non-swimmer plan uses the complete gentle alternative rather than just deleting the morning activity.
DO NOT BREAK THE RHYTHM
Four ways travelers exhaust Paraty.
Crossing town for every mealA good nearby table beats the famous reservation that breaks the day.
Stacking major institutionsTwo famous doors do not guarantee two meaningful visits.
Ignoring the hotel resetA real break protects the evening that mattered enough to reserve.
Treating travel time as emptyThe route, street, train, river, or view can be part of the city—not an inconvenience.
