THE ROUTE VERDICT

Realistic itineraries
in Ouro Preto.

Days that respect geography, energy, opening hours, crowd pressure, and the pleasure of not rushing.

ROUTING LOGIC

Times are suggested planning windows, including the travel buffers described below. Reorder whole days for museum closures, weather, and confirmed reservations. For a shorter visit, use the first day or first two days; extensions and alternatives are labeled.

01
Day 1

Tiradentes and one essential church

Central breakfast → Inconfidência → Largo de Coimbra → central dinner

  1. Pão de Queijo & Cia breakfast

Confirm opening or use your hotel breakfast. Allow an hour and a generous twenty-minute hill/street buffer to Tiradentes.

  2. Museu da Inconfidência

Protect two hours. Use Tue–Sat as the confirmed listed schedule; Monday use Boulieu and move this block to an open day. Sunday requires direct confirmation. Ask about the entrance, floor access and toilet before the climb.

  3. Bené da Flauta lunch

Allow thirty minutes for the short but sloped transfer, reserve current service and protect ninety minutes for food.

  4. São Francisco de Assis

Allow a short street transfer and forty-five to sixty minutes inside. Monday closed: study the exterior without implying entry and use Oratório only if its current calendar allows.

  5. Largo de Coimbra craft browsing and rest

Browse without pressure to buy; leave an hour to return to the hotel over uneven stones. This is a short central pause, not another remote sight.

  6. O Passo dinner

Monday municipal listing says closed: reserve Olga Nur in Rosário instead and arrange transport. Confirm the current venue before relying on dinner; no nightly jazz guarantee.

02
Day 2

Pilar and the western streets

Hotel → Pilar → Rosário → São José → Rosário dinner

  1. Hotel breakfast

Eat before leaving and arrange a ride if the downhill stones or later return are unsuitable.

  2. Basílica do Pilar

Protect arrival, sixty minutes inside and time to finish before the10:45 break. Monday closed: use the parish exterior, then swap the interior onto a later open morning.

    Check current official details ↗
  3. Rosário approach and exterior

Allow forty-five minutes for a gentle walk or short arranged ride, photograph without assuming the church is open, and take a seated pause.

  4. Acaso 85 lunch

Arrive well within its listed lunch window. On Sunday reserve this block for12:45 after an11:15–12:15 Casa dos Contos visit and thirty-minute return. If current operation is unconfirmed, use reserved Olga Nur lunch in the same district instead.

  5. Casa dos Contos

Protect thirty minutes for transfer and an hour inside. On Sunday move this visit to11:15–12:15 before the12:45 lunch, because published Sunday closing conflicts14:00/16:00; shorten the Rosário exterior pause and protect the thirty-minute return transfer. Monday use a confirmed Boulieu visit instead; no fictional Contos entry.

  6. Ópera Café pause, then hotel rest

Protect the hill transfer, coffee and a full return buffer rather than adding another paid interior.

  7. Olga Nur dinner

Reserve current service and arrange a return ride; lunch and dinner are separate service windows Mon–Thu.

03
Day 3

Mining knowledge and a wider art collection

Town → Du Veloso → Rosário lunch → Boulieu → hotel

  1. Hotel breakfast and access check

Confirm the mine’s exact physical demands and guiding language. Anyone unable or unwilling to enter tunnels uses the museum alternative below.

  2. Arrange the mine transfer

Protect forty-five minutes for pickup, drive and arrival; do not make this a hurried uphill walk.

  3. Mina Du Veloso

Allow ninety minutes including waiting, equipment and discussion. Visit in the morning because the municipal Sunday close conflicts. If underground entry is unsuitable, choose an open Inconfidência or Casa dos Contos block instead.

  4. Transfer toward Rosário

Protect thirty minutes for the ride and arrival.

  5. Olga Nur lunch

Reserve and finish before the listed weekday15:00 lunch close. Acaso85 is a nearby lunch-format alternative when confirmed, not an additional meal.

  6. Museu Boulieu

Protect forty-five minutes for pickup, uphill transfer and admission, then around two hours inside. Wednesday opens13:00, so this works. Tuesday closed: swap this entire afternoon with day four’s Guignard afternoon rather than promising Boulieu entry.

    Check current official details ↗
  7. Return and rest

Keep an hour for transport, rest and changing. Skip remote viewpoints if weather deteriorates.

  8. Bené da Flauta dinner

Confirm that day’s dinner and reserve if needed; it is outside the listed16:00–18:00 break. A full day need not finish with more climbing.

04
Day 4

Smaller art collections and a slower centre

Carmo precinct → Rua Direita → central lunch → rest

  1. Hotel breakfast

Choose the hotel rather than relying on a café before its advertised opening.

  2. Museu do Oratório

Protect ninety minutes including approach. Tuesday closed: use an agreed guided exterior-history or family circuit instead, not the closed science museum. No tour is assumed available without booking.

    Check current official details ↗
  3. Ópera Café coffee pause

Allow fifteen minutes for the sloped transfer and forty-five minutes for a light snack; do not buy a full lunch yet.

  4. Museu Casa Guignard

Weekday opening starts noon; weekends close15:00. Protect seventy-five minutes and confirm the entrance. Monday closed: swap this block with a confirmed Boulieu visit. If day three fell Tuesday, visit Guignard on Tuesday and REPLACE today’s remaining normal sequence: Oratório09:30, coffee11:15, Ópera Café lunch12:15, arranged ride13:00, Boulieu13:30–15:30, optional square-branch chocolate16:15 then hotel rest. Boulieu opens13:00 Wednesday; never send this swap there at12:15.

    Check current official details ↗
  5. Ópera Café light lunch

Normal plan: return within the same street area and confirm current lunch service. A small meal makes sense after the earlier snack; for a larger reserved meal choose Bené and replace this block entirely. Tuesday-to-Wednesday swap: eat this lunch at12:15 before the13:00 ride and13:30 Boulieu admission; the normal13:45 lunch time does not apply.

  6. Chocolates Ouro Preto, then hotel rest

Normal plan: a small daytime square-branch stop and a protected return; no invented late Sunday closing. Tuesday-to-Wednesday swap: Boulieu occupies13:30–15:30, so move chocolate to16:15 only if wanted and the branch is open; otherwise omit it and return to the hotel. The normal15:15 time does not apply.

  7. Bar Angu light dinner when the kitchen is confirmed

Use a current corn-based snack plate only after checking kitchen service and outside-diner access. If a proper main meal is needed, reserve Olga Nur at19:00 instead; choose one dinner, not both.

DO NOT BREAK THE RHYTHM

Four ways travelers exhaust Ouro Preto.

Crossing town for every mealA good nearby table beats the famous reservation that breaks the day.

Stacking major institutionsTwo famous doors do not guarantee two meaningful visits.

Ignoring the hotel resetA real break protects the evening that mattered enough to reserve.

Treating travel time as emptyThe route, street, train, river, or view can be part of the city—not an inconvenience.
