Days that respect geography, energy, opening hours, crowd pressure, and the pleasure of not rushing.
ROUTING LOGIC
Times are suggested planning windows, including the travel buffers described below. Reorder whole days for museum closures, weather, and confirmed reservations. For a shorter visit, use the first day or first two days; extensions and alternatives are labeled.
Share praluline but add a substantial breakfast at your lodging or confirmed café; allow 45 minutes.
Vieux Lyon route
Cross to Saint-Jean and spend two hours on public lanes and signed traboules. Closed passage: continue the street route without forcing entry.
Old-city lunch
Use a confirmed nearby café for a full meal; do not cross town before the hill. Allow 75 minutes.
Funicular to Fourvière
Allow 30–45 minutes including walking, ticketing and waiting; check TCL disruption information.
Basilica and terraces
Visit quietly for 60–75 minutes. Service restriction: use the exterior panorama and continue.
Lugdunum
Walk about 15 minutes and allow up to three hours. Museum closure: use the free theatres and return downhill earlier; wet surfaces require care.
Café des Fédérations dinner
Allow 45–60 minutes downhill and across the river plus a short rest; use a confirmed reservation, not a hopeful walk-in.
02
Day 2
Presqu'île art and a park reset
Terreaux → Bellecour → Brotteaux → Tête d'Or
Central breakfast
Eat near your base and reach Terreaux by 09:45.
Musée des Beaux-Arts
Choose two collection areas for 2.5 hours. Tuesday/holiday closure: substitute Presqu'île architecture and a printing-museum check, not another distant site.
Café des Fédérations lunch
Reserve the 13:00 sitting and allow 90 minutes. If you used it on Day 1, choose another confirmed Terreaux full meal.
Transfer to Brotteaux
Allow 30–40 minutes by metro/walk and a short seated break.
Bernachon pause
Choose one pastry or chocolate item; if the tea room is not operating, use the boutique or skip it.
Parc de la Tête d'Or
Allow 20 minutes to a named gate and 90 minutes on one loop. Poor weather: return to the centre and rest.
Daniel et Denise dinner
Use the Créqui branch only on a published dinner day; otherwise reserve Brasserie Georges or another open full-meal venue.
03
Day 3
Confluence without backtracking
Perrache → Confluence museum → riverfront → Perrache
Breakfast near Perrache
Allow a full meal, then take the tram or walk south with a 30-minute buffer.
Musée des Confluences
Spend three hours on selected permanent and temporary galleries. Monday closure: move this day or use riverfront architecture without claiming museum entry.
Museum-area lunch
Use the museum café or a confirmed Confluence restaurant for a full 75-minute meal.
Confluence riverside and architecture
Walk one manageable loop for 60–90 minutes. Wind, heat or rain: shorten and use an indoor pause.
Return and rest
Allow 35–50 minutes to your hotel; no second major museum is added.
Brasserie Georges dinner
Reserve near Perrache and allow a full meal. Event crowd or private closure: arrange a confirmed alternative before leaving Confluence.
04
Day 4
Silk workers and cinema
Croix-Rousse → central lunch → Monplaisir
Breakfast near your base
Eat fully, check Maison des Canuts and Institut Lumière schedules, and leave by 09:00.
Croix-Rousse plateau
Allow 45–60 minutes uphill by metro/bus including waiting; start with a level market/boulevard circuit.
Maison des Canuts or district interpretation
Use a confirmed session for 60–90 minutes. Closed day: extend the plateau walk and do not enter private passages.
Le Bouchon des Filles lunch or central fallback
Allow 20–30 minutes downhill and a reserved 90-minute meal; if lunch service is unavailable, use Café des Fédérations or another confirmed room.
Transfer to Monplaisir
Allow 45–60 minutes across the city and a short entry margin.
Institut Lumière
Allow two hours. Monday or event closure: keep a neighborhood exterior walk and café, then rest.
Le Kitchen Café only if dinner is explicitly confirmed
Its limited service is not assumed. Otherwise reserve Daniel et Denise on an operating night or eat near your base.
DO NOT BREAK THE RHYTHM
Four ways travelers exhaust Lyon.
Crossing town for every mealA good nearby table beats the famous reservation that breaks the day.
Stacking major institutionsTwo famous doors do not guarantee two meaningful visits.
Ignoring the hotel resetA real break protects the evening that mattered enough to reserve.
Treating travel time as emptyThe route, street, train, river, or view can be part of the city—not an inconvenience.
