THE ROUTE VERDICT

Realistic itineraries
in Lima.

Days that respect geography, energy, opening hours, crowd pressure, and the pleasure of not rushing.

ROUTING LOGIC

Times are suggested planning windows, including the travel buffers described below. Reorder whole days for museum closures, weather, and confirmed reservations. For a shorter visit, use the first day or first two days; extensions and alternatives are labeled.

01
Day 1

The historic center and Peruvian art

Plaza Mayor → San Francisco → Cordano → MALI

  1. Historic-center arrival

Allow 45–90 minutes from coastal hotels and walk the plazas in daylight. Civic restrictions may require using nearby streets instead.

  2. San Francisco visit

Confirm the available tour and religious dress requirements. Skip the catacombs if steps or confined spaces are unsuitable.

  3. Bar Cordano lunch

Order a butifarra and take a seated break. This Saturday-first plan matches the municipal Monday–Saturday listing; on Sunday, swap this day with Day 2 or arrange another confirmed central meal.

  4. MALI

Allow 25–45 minutes by car and two hours inside. On Monday, replace MALI with the daily-opening Larco visit from Day 3, allowing a longer transfer.

  5. Return and Panchita dinner

Allow 45–90 minutes back to Miraflores and keep dinner flexible if traffic runs long.

02
Day 2

Urban archaeology and the southern coast

Huaca Pucllana → La Mar → Barranco

  1. Huaca Pucllana

Confirm a guided daytime slot using the Ministry listing and municipal contact. Tuesday closure means swapping with Larco; ask about the precise route if steps are difficult.

  2. La Mar lunch

Allow 20–40 minutes within Miraflores, check current service and leave room for a relaxed seafood meal.

  3. Barranco upper streets

Allow 30–60 minutes by car. Walk the municipal park and Bridge of Sighs area; use the upper route if stairs or slopes are unsuitable.

  4. Isolina shared dinner

Keep portions modest after lunch or make this a late light meal. A reserved Central experience can replace dinner, but should be the day's main food event.

Day 3

The Larco collection and a coastal reset

Pueblo Libre → Miraflores malecón

  1. Museo Larco

Allow 45–90 minutes from Miraflores and two or three hours in the collection. Check holiday hours, especially around year-end.

  2. Museo Larco Café-Restaurant

Reserve lunch in the same grounds and avoid an unnecessary midday cross-city meal transfer.

  3. Return to Miraflores

Allow 45–90 minutes, then walk a short malecón section. Gray weather is normal enough that a café alternative should remain easy.

  4. Maido, if food is the priority

Use a confirmed reservation and the correct menu format. Otherwise choose Panchita for an easier dinner; do not stack two full tasting experiences on consecutive tired evenings.

Day 4

A separate southern archaeology day

Miraflores → Pachacamac → Miraflores

  1. Depart for Pachacamac

Arrange a return vehicle and allow 90–150 minutes in each direction as a planning range, checking live traffic. Do not attach this excursion to a fixed airport departure.

  2. Museum and sanctuary route

Confirm the open date and last admission; Monday is closed and Sunday is shorter. Use the museum and a limited suitable route if exposed or uneven ground is difficult.

  3. Late lunch at Panchita

Return with water and a snack in case traffic delays lunch; confirm service before relying on this time.

  4. Rest in Miraflores

Keep the return flexible. If Pachacamac is closed, choose San Isidro and a reserved Astrid y Gastón lunch instead of forcing a distant replacement.

  5. Circuito Mágico del Agua

Only add this if energy and the confirmed show schedule justify another 45–90-minute road transfer. A quiet local evening is the default after the excursion.

DO NOT BREAK THE RHYTHM

Four ways travelers exhaust Lima.

Crossing town for every mealA good nearby table beats the famous reservation that breaks the day.

Stacking major institutionsTwo famous doors do not guarantee two meaningful visits.

Ignoring the hotel resetA real break protects the evening that mattered enough to reserve.

Treating travel time as emptyThe route, street, train, river, or view can be part of the city—not an inconvenience.
