Days that respect geography, energy, opening hours, crowd pressure, and the pleasure of not rushing.
ROUTING LOGIC
Times are suggested planning windows, including the travel buffers described below. Reorder whole days for museum closures, weather, and confirmed reservations. For a shorter visit, use the first day or first two days; extensions and alternatives are labeled.
01
Day 1
Lower-city arrival and rest
El Alto airport → Calacoto → hotel
Prearranged airport transfer
Saturday-start example assumes a morning arrival; move the times to your flight. Go directly down to a Calacoto hotel, allowing 60–100 minutes or more if traffic or roadblocks intervene.
Settle in and rest
Arrange early room access beforehand. Keep exertion mild; skip sightseeing if you feel unwell.
La Rufina Calacoto lunch
Confirm the Calle 16 branch's Saturday lunch. Use a vehicle if the walk feels demanding and choose a modest plate.
At most a brief, easy look around your hotel area, with plenty of seated rest. Do not add a cable ascent or hill climb.
Quiet hotel evening
Arrange a light meal through your accommodation and sleep. This is a complete arrival day; severe or worsening symptoms require medical attention, not another activity.
02
Day 2
A short civic introduction
Calacoto → Plaza Murillo → Achumani
Vehicle to Plaza Murillo
Only if well, allow 45–75 minutes and keep the return available. This remains within the gentle first 48 hours.
Brief square visit
Spend 30–40 minutes with seated pauses. Avoid demonstrations and skip uphill extensions; if tired, stay in Calacoto.
Return south to Achumani
Allow 60–90 minutes rather than chaining central museums onto lunch.
Ancestral Sunday lunch
Reserve at Calle 10 de Achumani 135; its published Sunday lunch suits this day. Choose a modest order if appetite is low.
Stay close to lunch and return to the hotel; this is not a cue to climb El Montículo.
04
Day 4
Central collections and commerce
Calle Jaén → MUSEF → Calle Murillo → Linares
Vehicle to Calle Jaén
Tuesday is the example day. Confirm the selected museum's opening and take a short exterior look if it is closed.
MUSEF
Allow 15–25 minutes for the short but potentially tiring transfer and around 90 minutes inside. Confirm admission; if closed, choose a currently open municipal collection.
La Murillo lunch
Allow 20–30 minutes including a vehicle if needed and confirm the operator's Calle Murillo address and lunch service.
Use a brief, respectful guided shopping loop; ask before photographs and skip unfamiliar medicinal products.
Return with energy left
A single cable segment is optional only if well and its line serves your route; otherwise use your arranged vehicle. Tiwanaku belongs on a separate later day.
DO NOT BREAK THE RHYTHM
Four ways travelers exhaust La Paz.
Crossing town for every mealA good nearby table beats the famous reservation that breaks the day.
Stacking major institutionsTwo famous doors do not guarantee two meaningful visits.
Ignoring the hotel resetA real break protects the evening that mattered enough to reserve.
Treating travel time as emptyThe route, street, train, river, or view can be part of the city—not an inconvenience.
