Days that respect geography, energy, opening hours, crowd pressure, and the pleasure of not rushing.
TRAVEL STATUS · CHECK BEFORE BOOKING
Morocco currently carries an exercise-high-caution advisory. Essaouira is outside the specified do-not-travel border areas. Check the advisory and local conditions again before departure; avoid demonstrations and isolated night walks.
ROUTING LOGIC
Times are suggested planning windows, including the travel buffers described below. Reorder whole days for museum closures, weather, and confirmed reservations. For a shorter visit, use the first day or first two days; extensions and alternatives are labeled.
01
Day 1
Port, walls and first medina bearings
Hotel breakfast → working harbor → Kasbah walls → l’Atelier lunch → medina lanes → Le Sirocco dinner
Breakfast at your accommodation
Ask the host for the correct gate and a map before leaving. Protect 20–30 minutes for the first walk, longer with luggage or mobility needs.
Working port, from public areas
Allow 45–60 minutes without blocking work. Use dry public paths; an accompanying companion or guide can help identify a suitable surface. Skip restricted or wet working sections.
Kasbah sea walls
Allow 15–20 minutes to walk back through Moulay Hassan, then 45–60 minutes at the open walls. If wind or steps make access unsuitable, keep to the lower medina streets.
l’Atelier café lunch
Allow 20–30 minutes through medina lanes and 75 minutes for lunch. The operator advertises a changing lunch board. Upper-floor premises require a direct access check; if stairs exclude you, prebook an accessible hotel dining room instead.
Use Avenue de l’Istiqlal and the host’s recommended lanes, with tea and shopping pauses. Finish by 16:00 instead of trying to add the distant beach.
Le Sirocco, reserved service
Confirm today’s kitchen service by phone before setting out. Allow 90 minutes and use a known main-lane route home; l’Atelier lunch is not evidence this dinner venue is open.
Hotel breakfast → Bayt Dakira → Damgaard → Silvestro lunch → Tamounte → Dar Souiri → Umia dinner
Breakfast and phone confirmations
Ask your host to confirm Bayt Dakira and the gallery before leaving. This flexible day follows confirmed access, not an invented all-week opening schedule.
Bayt Dakira
Reserve 45–75 minutes. Confirm respectful visitor entry, photography and the actual step-free arrangement. If unavailable, use the heritage walk along the same medina streets; move the visit to a confirmed opening.
Damgaard gallery
Allow 20–30 minutes between lanes and 30–45 minutes inside if open. A closed door becomes a shorter walk and longer lunch, not an assumed substitute museum visit.
Silvestro lunch
Reserve only after confirming lunch service, with 20–30 minutes for the walk. If lunch is not offered today, use l’Atelier’s advertised daytime café instead and keep the afternoon unchanged.
Phone first; allow 30–45 minutes plus 20 minutes to find the door. No live workshop is promised. This slot can be omitted without disrupting the day.
Dar Souiri
Protect a 30-minute walking buffer. Tourism lists Monday–Saturday afternoon opening 15:00–19:00; on Sunday omit this slot and move it to an open afternoon of day three or four. No concert is assumed.
Umia dinner
Reserve a confirmed service at 22 Rue Skala, ask about dietary needs and entry stairs, and allow 90 minutes.
Hotel breakfast → l’Atelier reserved class and lunch → rest → Caravane Café dinner
A modest hotel breakfast
The class ends with a meal, so leave appetite and agree dietary restrictions in advance. On Sunday swap this whole day with the beach day.
Arrive at l’Atelier
Find Rue Mohamed Ben Messaoud with a 20-minute check-in buffer. Confirm upper-floor access before paying; the accessible alternative is a seated, prearranged private demonstration only if an operator actually confirms it.
Cooking workshop, souk visit and included lunch
Operator advertises this Monday–Saturday format. Stay with the reserved program rather than adding a separate lunch or an independent shopping loop.
Allow 30 minutes to return and at least two hours clear. If Dar Souiri was closed on day two and is confirmed open now, a short 16:00 visit can replace rest; it is optional rather than another mandatory stop.
Caravane Café dinner
Confirm the exact restaurant service and a suitable room, then enjoy the interior at a slow pace. No show or adjoining venue entry is included.
Hotel breakfast → southern beachfront → optional booked surf lesson → Ocean Vagabond lunch → hotel rest → Dar Baba dinner
Breakfast and weather check
Read Maroc Météo marine/wind warnings and obtain the instructor’s same-day judgment. If conditions are unsuitable, cancel or move the lesson under its terms; keep the meal and a sheltered walk.
Transfer to the southern city beach
Allow 15–25 minutes by taxi including pickup, or 40–60 minutes along the promenade from central medina depending on pace. Confirm drop-off and access to the nautical base; loose sand is a separate barrier.
Optional Salt Water Elements surf lesson
Prebook the advertised one-hour instruction, with 30 minutes for fitting and 30–45 minutes for changing afterwards. The instructor may move the start or decline water entry. Non-surfers use the promenade, never a guaranteed safe swim.
Use an agreed taxi pickup with 20–30 minutes allowance or a daylight promenade walk. Keep the afternoon free rather than appending Sidi Kaouki or a rural resort.
Dar Baba sharing dinner
Reserve a confirmed service at 2 Rue de Marrakech and verify access to the booked room. Allow 90–120 minutes and use the host’s recommended route back.
