ORDER THE CITY
Five rituals, without the costume.
Rice with a history
At Hannibal’s, let a rice dish be the main meal and ask about preparation. Gullah Geechee food traditions are living knowledge, not a generic label for every Southern plate.
Shrimp and grits once, thoughtfully
Ask about the shrimp and the current preparation; choose a portion that leaves room for the rest of the day rather than ordering it at every meal.
Cooked oysters in season
Check what oysters are actually available and choose a cooked preparation when appropriate. A coastal location does not make harvest seasons or individual health needs irrelevant.
A biscuit before the walk
Eat breakfast before a long outdoor circuit and carry water. The James Island and King Street Millers locations are different route decisions.
Vegetables at the center of dinner
At FIG or Husk, ask what is in season and select sides with as much attention as the protein. Clarify stocks or meat seasoning when needed.
RESERVATION CLOCK
Book by pressure, not prestige.
