Days that respect geography, energy, opening hours, crowd pressure, and the pleasure of not rushing.
ROUTING LOGIC
Times are suggested planning windows, including the travel buffers described below. Reorder whole days for museum closures, weather, and confirmed reservations. For a shorter visit, use the first day or first two days; extensions and alternatives are labeled.
01
Day 1
Mainland orientation and public beach
Matira base → Vaitape → Matira
Ori Ori breakfast
Use a confirmed table at Royal Bora Bora or your own accommodation. These are four full stay days; arrival and departure transfers require separate time. Motu guests must first arrange a mainland landing and shift this schedule accordingly.
Road transfer to Vaitape
Allow 25–40 minutes from the Matira area plus a short arrival margin; use a booked driver.
Vaitape orientation
Spend 60–75 minutes around the commercial center and waterfront. Ask before photographing people; Sunday shops may be closed, so swap with Day 4.
Transfer to Saint James
Allow 10–20 minutes by arranged car plus a table buffer; do not assume a comfortable roadside walk.
Saint James lunch
Monday–Saturday, allowing 75–90 minutes before the 14:00 lunch finish. If closed, depart Vaitape by 11:30 for a 12:30 Ori Ori table near Matira.
Matira beach
After 25–40 minutes back south, spend a relaxed hour on the public shore. Enter water only if conditions and your ability permit.
Hotel rest
Leave an unstructured afternoon rather than adding another boat ride. In heavy rain, stay indoors.
Lucky House dinner
Confirm the table and allow 15–30 minutes for the local transfer and arrival. If unavailable, reserve Tama’a Maitai or Ori Ori instead.
Finish by 07:45. At a motu resort use its confirmed breakfast service instead and agree the exact boat pickup the previous day.
Pickup and briefing buffer
The named example is Bora Bora Romantic Tour’s 09:00 Deluxe departure, Monday–Saturday, adults only. Its confirmed pickup time and location override this estimate; no self-transfer to an unspecified pier.
Lagoon departure
Allow the operator’s six-hour programme. Reefs and wildlife stops change with conditions; require no feeding or handling and disclose swimming limitations.
Included motu lunch
Lunch is part of this named operator’s Deluxe programme; the guide chooses its actual timing. Confirm dietary needs, drinking water and authorized islet access before paying.
Return allowance
Keep at least 30–60 minutes after the nominal programme for drop-off and changing. Families need a different suitable operator; Sunday or a weather cancellation means swap with Day 3 or 4.
Rest at base
No second cruise is needed. If the tour was canceled, eat a full 12:00 lunch at Tama’a Maitai and spend the day ashore rather than seeking an unsafe departure.
Haere Mai dinner
Reserve only if its seasonal service is operating; otherwise use Tama’a Maitai at the same property or your accommodation’s confirmed restaurant. Leave a local road buffer from a mainland base.
03
Day 3
The inhabited island and its histories
Matira → guided main-island loop → Povai → Matira
Ori Ori breakfast
Eat before an arranged morning pickup; confirm the guide’s actual start and return rather than treating these as public departure times.
Driver pickup and route briefing
A prebooked Vavau cultural 4x4 visit is the example. Allow 30–45 minutes for collection and briefing, and agree the mainland drop-off before lunch.
Guided history and viewpoints
Allow roughly three hours for the agreed route, cultural interpretation and permitted stops. If tracks are unsafe or the vehicle unsuitable, use a shorter paved-road tour or swap days.
Tama’a Maitai lunch
Allow return travel after the tour and a 75–90-minute meal. Its extended daytime service protects against a later return; call if the schedule changes.
Rest and a quiet shore hour
Return to the accommodation, then use a nearby permitted shore area if comfortable. This interval is intentionally free of another paid excursion.
Depart for a reserved dinner
Allow 20–40 minutes from Matira to Povai and an arrival buffer, adjusted by the restaurant’s confirmed pickup.
La Villa Mahana dinner
Use the actual reserved sitting and leave the return open until the meal finishes. If no table is offered, book Ori Ori or Lucky House and keep the evening local.
04
Day 4
A slow final full day, with departure protected
Matira base → nearby water or rest → lunch → optional spa → dinner
Ori Ori breakfast
Start later and finish by 09:00. If flying today, replace the following leisure schedule with your confirmed checkout and transfer plan; do not squeeze a water excursion before the airport boat.
Short paddle or quiet reading
Only use equipment and a launch authorized by your accommodation, within the host’s weather limits, for up to an hour. If unavailable or windy, remain ashore. A motu guest should do this on their own property rather than cross the lagoon.
Change and local transfer
Allow time to dry, change and travel 15–30 minutes to the Matira lunch venue. No cross-island errand is added.
Snack Matira lunch
Tuesday–Sunday, allow 75–90 minutes. Monday or a closure: Tama’a Maitai is the named local alternative. Resort guests can use a confirmed on-property lunch; Miki Miki is appropriate only at Le Bora Bora by Pearl Resorts.
Optional Hinatea appointment
After lunch, allow 15–30 minutes to Royal Bora Bora and arrive 15 minutes early for a confirmed one-hour treatment. Otherwise keep a genuine afternoon rest; no appointment is assumed.
Pack and confirm onward transport
Air Tahiti’s Vaitape boat departs 90 minutes before the flight. For a Matira stay, plan to leave at least 2 hours 30 minutes before the flight, allowing 25–40 minutes by road and time at the pier; follow any earlier operator instruction. A resort airport boat is a separate arrangement.
Ori Ori farewell dinner
For those staying tonight, reserve a final local meal with a short road transfer. A flight-day traveler instead arranges an earlier meal or packed food around the actual departure; the dinner is not a reason to delay the boat.
DO NOT BREAK THE RHYTHM
Four ways travelers exhaust Bora Bora.
Crossing town for every mealA good nearby table beats the famous reservation that breaks the day.
Stacking major institutionsTwo famous doors do not guarantee two meaningful visits.
Ignoring the hotel resetA real break protects the evening that mattered enough to reserve.
Treating travel time as emptyThe route, street, train, river, or view can be part of the city—not an inconvenience.
