Days that respect geography, energy, opening hours, crowd pressure, and the pleasure of not rushing.
ROUTING LOGIC
Times are suggested planning windows, including the travel buffers described below. Reorder whole days for museum closures, weather, and confirmed reservations. For a shorter visit, use the first day or first two days; extensions and alternatives are labeled.
01
Day 1
The Taj and the imperial fort
Taj Ganj → Agra Fort → hotel district
Taj Mahal
Have a light hotel breakfast and arrive at the booked entrance for the date’s opening, 30 minutes before sunrise. Allow 2–3 hours including security. This entire day moves to a non-Friday; use Day 2 or Day 4 on Friday.
Bellevue breakfast
A reserved breakfast near the East Gate gives a proper break; hotel breakfast is the simpler substitute if outside-guest dining is unavailable. Shift this time with the seasonal Taj start.
Agra Fort
Allow 25–40 minutes from the Taj area, then roughly 2 hours. In severe heat, shorten exposed sections and move the fort to the next morning.
Mughal Pavilion lunch
Allow 30–45 minutes back toward Fatehabad Road. Its all-day service is useful if security or traffic delayed the morning.
Hotel rest
Keep the afternoon free of another river crossing. On an earlier fort finish, a short hotel-area stroll is enough.
Dasaprakash dinner
Confirm the Agra branch service; use a reserved Peshawri table if it is closed or unavailable.
02
Day 2
The quieter east bank
Taj Ganj → Itimad-ud-Daulah → Chini-ka-Rauza → Mehtab Bagh
Hotel breakfast
Meet a driver at 08:15 and allow 45–60 minutes for the river crossing. Agree all stops and the return before setting out.
Itimad-ud-Daulah
Spend 60–90 minutes looking at the decoration and garden.
Chini-ka-Rauza
Allow 10–20 minutes by road; take a short visit only if the site is open and conditions are suitable. Otherwise go directly to the garden.
Mehtab Bagh
Allow 20–35 minutes from Chini-ka-Rauza and about 45 minutes in the garden. Do not go down to restricted river areas for a photograph.
Dasaprakash lunch
Allow 45–75 minutes to cross back. Confirm service beforehand; Mughal Pavilion is the all-day fallback.
Sheroes cafe pause
Check Chhanv’s current address and opening first, then allow 15–30 minutes from the hotel district. A closure means a hotel rest, not a search for an obsolete address.
Peshawri dinner
Reserve a relaxed evening table after the riverbank day.
03
Day 3
Give Fatehpur Sikri its own day
Agra → Fatehpur Sikri → Agra
Hotel breakfast
Bring drinking water and a hotel-packed snack for a designated eating area outside the monument. Depart at 07:30.
Fatehpur Sikri
Allow 75–105 minutes on the road plus a parking transfer, with up to 2¼ hours from hotel departure to the site. Visit the palace complex and, when permitted, the religious precinct without rushing the steps.
Snack and shade break
Eat outside protected interiors in a permitted area, then finish the visit. If the heat is excessive, leave earlier rather than pushing through another courtyard.
Return to Agra
Allow 90–120 minutes including the transfer back to the car. If access is restricted, return for an unhurried hotel day; do not add an unplanned long detour.
Mughal Pavilion late lunch
Its all-day service protects the meal even if the road is slow.
Rest
Leave the afternoon open after a substantial excursion.
Esphahan dinner
Reserve and confirm nonresident access; Dasaprakash is a less expensive alternative with separately confirmed service.
04
Day 4
Sikandra and a city-food finish
Taj Ganj → Sikandra → Civil Lines → Pratappura
Hotel breakfast
Depart at 08:00 and allow 45–75 minutes to Sikandra.
Akbar’s Tomb
Allow about 90 minutes for the gate, garden and permitted interior.
Mariam-uz-Zamani’s Tomb
A short road transfer leads to this smaller stop; if closed, extend the garden visit at Sikandra instead.
Pinch of Spice Civil Lines lunch
Allow 25–45 minutes from the Sikandra area and confirm this branch’s lunch service. If unavailable, return to Mughal Pavilion for a later all-day lunch.
Pratappura and Sadar
After a rest or slow transfer, have a small snack at Deviram and walk a compact market section. Skip it if heat or traffic makes walking unpleasant.
Bellevue dinner
Allow 30–50 minutes back to the East Gate hotel area. Reserve in advance or finish at Dasaprakash.
DO NOT BREAK THE RHYTHM
Four ways travelers exhaust Agra.
Crossing town for every mealA good nearby table beats the famous reservation that breaks the day.
Stacking major institutionsTwo famous doors do not guarantee two meaningful visits.
Ignoring the hotel resetA real break protects the evening that mattered enough to reserve.
Treating travel time as emptyThe route, street, train, river, or view can be part of the city—not an inconvenience.
