Days that respect geography, energy, opening hours, crowd pressure, and the pleasure of not rushing.
ROUTING LOGIC
Times are suggested planning windows, including the travel buffers described below. Reorder whole days for museum closures, weather, and confirmed reservations. For a shorter visit, use the first day or first two days; extensions and alternatives are labeled.
01
Day 1
Gardens and North Terrace collections
Botanic Garden → AGSA → South Australian Museum
Hotel breakfast
Eat before the garden; leave by 08:30 for a local walk or short ride.
Botanic Garden selected loop
Spend 40–45 minutes after confirming the gate time; skip in high wind or excessive heat.
Art Gallery of South Australia
Allow two hours and choose a few collection areas. If a gallery closes, use another open room rather than rushing elsewhere.
South Australian Museum Café lunch
A named on-site lunch with current daily café service; allow an hour. If unavailable, take 15–20 minutes to Bread & Bone and shift the museum later.
South Australian Museum
Choose a 90-minute or two-hour independent visit; special displays and cultural notices guide what is appropriate.
Hotel rest
Keep time to recover before dinner.
Africola dinner
Use a confirmed dinner sitting. On Sunday or if unavailable, book Shōbōsho and allow a 15–25-minute city transfer.
02
Day 2
Market morning and coastal afternoon
Central Market → Glenelg → CBD
Breakfast at the hotel
Eat before browsing; use Tuesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday for the fullest market choice.
Adelaide Central Market
Allow two hours including stops with traders. Sunday/Monday: swap with Day 1; Wednesday traders are optional.
Lucia’s lunch
Allow 75 minutes and confirm kitchen service; if unavailable, use Bread & Bone with a 15–20-minute transfer.
Travel to Glenelg
Allow 60–90 minutes door to door. October 12–16 tram works require an onward road arrangement from Brighton Road or a direct taxi; no Jetty Road substitute bus is promised.
Coastal walk and sitting break
Keep this to 60–90 minutes; no swim is assumed. In bad weather remain in the city and extend a museum visit.
Return and rest
Allow 60–90 minutes to the CBD with disruption margins.
Shōbōsho dinner
Book the actual sitting; Bread & Bone nearby is the simpler fallback.
03
Day 3
Sport and the separate port district
Adelaide Oval → Port Adelaide → CBD
Breakfast and check-in preparation
Eat first; leave the hotel by 09:00 and reach the Oval around 09:30 for a confirmed 10:00 session.
Adelaide Oval tour
Allow about 90 minutes. If that session is not offered, keep a public riverbank walk and proceed to the port earlier.
Road transfer to Port Adelaide
Allow 35–60 minutes plus parking. This route uses road transport during the October 9–11 rail closure; normal trains need separate station buffers.
The Port Admiral lunch
Reserve current service and allow 75–90 minutes; bring a packed meal if a table cannot be confirmed.
Maritime Museum
Walk 5–15 minutes from lunch and allow 90 minutes; if closed, use a short public heritage walk in suitable weather.
Return to the CBD
Allow 45–75 minutes and rest.
Peel St dinner
Reserve Monday–Saturday; Sunday use Bread & Bone nearby.
04
Day 4
A full, measured Hills outing
Adelaide → Hahndorf → Adelaide
Breakfast and weather check
Eat at the hotel and check fire warnings before leaving; cancel the Hills plan if advised.
Travel to Hahndorf
Allow 45–75 minutes by car, more on the actual public-bus journey. Park before beginning the walk.
Village heritage and shops
Take a short main-street walk with a sitting break; private interiors require their own opening times.
Hahndorf Inn lunch
Use a confirmed sitting and allow 90 minutes. If unavailable, carry a substantial picnic and use a permitted shaded area in suitable weather.
A slow second village interval
Keep this local; do not bolt on Barossa wineries or a distant wildlife park.
Return to Adelaide
Allow 60–90 minutes and hotel rest. If the outing is cancelled, use available central museum galleries and Bread & Bone lunch.
Parwana dinner
Leave central lodging by 18:00 for a 15–30-minute ride. Tuesday–Sunday only; Monday use a confirmed Peel St table instead.
DO NOT BREAK THE RHYTHM
Four ways travelers exhaust Adelaide.
Crossing town for every mealA good nearby table beats the famous reservation that breaks the day.
Stacking major institutionsTwo famous doors do not guarantee two meaningful visits.
Ignoring the hotel resetA real break protects the evening that mattered enough to reserve.
Treating travel time as emptyThe route, street, train, river, or view can be part of the city—not an inconvenience.
