Where can I go alone without feeling out of place?
A listening-led evening gives you a reason to be there: try Ginza Music Bar for records, or choose an actual Cotton Club show and book a single seat. For a simpler hotel arrival, Mandarin Bar offers a seated drink or mocktail. None promises conversation, companionship or a seat without checking.
What suits a quieter or 50+ evening?
Start with Mandarin Bar or Royal Scots, whose classic settings are a stronger editorial fit than defaulting to Kabukicho clubs. Royal Scots closes Sundays and public holidays. The Peak advertises acoustic sets, but music can still make conversation harder; ask for a seat away from speakers.
Where should I hear live music?
New York Bar advertises nightly jazz with a cover and walk-in seating; The Peak advertises acoustic music with breaks. Cotton Club is better when you want a particular artist and an actual dated ticket. Ginza Music Bar is recorded/vinyl listening, so this is not a live-band promise.
Where should I dance?
Look at ZEROTOKYO’s official dated calendar and choose music before paying. Its 20+ original-ID, cashless-payment, security and tattoo rules matter. We do not automatically insert it into every Thursday or Friday route; an advertised past night does not verify your travel date.
How much should I budget?
Separate admission or cover, drinks/food and the hotel return. New York Bar publishes a cover from 18:30; premium hotel bars then add menu and service costs. Cotton Club and ZEROTOKYO prices belong to the actual ticket. For a lower-spend evening, choose one room and finish before the last train.
What needs a reservation, and what time should I arrive?
Mandarin Bar and Royal Scots offer bookings; New York Bar does not. SG Club Sip’s linked booking page offers 18:00 or 19:30 and may limit busy sessions to 90 minutes. Cotton Club and ZEROTOKYO require the actual show/door information. Do not treat the planner’s start time as a ticket or reservation.
What should I wear and which ID should I bring?
Original valid government photo ID is the practical default, and you must be 20 to buy alcohol in Japan. New York Bar restricts shorts, sportswear, sandals and sleeveless garments; Mandarin Bar has its own smart-casual rules. ZEROTOKYO can refuse exposed tattoos and does not accept ID images or copies. Read the actual room’s policy.
Can I have a good evening without drinking?
Yes: Mandarin Bar explicitly lists mocktails, and SG Club advertises mocktails at Guzzle. THE BAR Shiodome’s evening high tea is a separate reservation-led food-and-tea plan. A show or listening night can also work, but check minimums; not drinking does not remove a cover charge.
How do I get back, especially if I need step-free access?
Check the actual Tokyo Metro/JR connection before the second stop and allow station walking time. If staying past last service, ask the venue or hotel to arrange a licensed taxi and confirm the fare estimate. Verify each lift/exit and the bar’s toilet before booking; the Ginza fourth-floor and SG basement routes are unverified for wheelchairs.
